Hello,

I have a 1TB external hard drive connected to my Dell Windows 10 laptop.
I have about 400 GB of data stored on this hard drive. Until recently, the hard drive worked fine, but now I am getting a message from Windows that the hard drive must be formatted before it can be used. I do not want to lose all of my data, so I ran the third party app: Find and Mount to try and retrieve my data, but after doing a thorough scan, it reported that no visible partitions were found. I am not having this problem with my 2 other external hard drives. Is there any way that I can retrieve my data before formatting the hard drive?

Thank you

There’s a recent Windows update which has affected SSD, when 50GB is written to the drive it disappears. Microsoft initiated a rollback for the update but once the damage has been done there’s little to do.
Otherwise try Macrium Reflect, download the software & create their boot media on USB or add it to the boot menu.Use this to boot into their recovery & see if the drive shows, if so then image the drive. Once done reboot the pc & then find the image & right click to mount, if files are there then you can format the drive. If Macrium doesn’t find anything then it’ll require professional recovery.
