SOLVED Push notification driving me round the bend!

I'm now certain that these notifications are not from McAfee. The cause is in the browser not the PC so I'm going to see if I can uninstall and then reinstall Edge. I'll leave this thread open a couple more days in case anyone has any ideas, and to let you know how I get on.

SOLVED Push notification driving me round the bend!

Thanks for the replies. I'm not discounting the use of MaCfee's uninstaller but I've discovered there is a malware site that sends these messages and if you follow their instruction to install MaCfee it, which I've not done, t takes you to a site that infects your PC with a virus. So it appears...

SOLVED Push notification driving me round the bend!

Recently bought a PC. McAgee anti-virus was installed, but not activated. I like Windows Defender, which was activated, so uninstalled MaCfee. From that moment I've been plagued by messages that are ostensibly from Edge saying MaCfee has found viruses on my PC so I must install MaCfee to get rid...

    SOLVED Mystery internet activity

hanks to all who've tried to help but the matter is now settled as the computer has packed up! I don't think the incident I described had anything to do with the computers demise. So I'm now going to close this thread, though I'm still curious as to what did happen.

    SOLVED Mystery internet activity

I had that experience with a former PC. Turned out that as I had land line phone on the same extension and my PC was set to turn itself on if anything else on its circuit did. It's a way of switching a number of computers on with one switch. Changing the settings stopped the PC turning itself on...

    SOLVED Mystery internet activity

Firstly let me apologise for being slow to reply. The possibility of the internet activity being a Windows update had occurred to me but that turned not to be the case. It may have been other software, like Office, as there's no notification of its updates. WD and MB found no malware and the...

    SOLVED Mystery internet activity

The mystery deepens! I may not have made it clear that the laptop was switched off when the activity was happening. I asked a relative whose in the tech business and he'd not heard of such an incident before. Is my experience unique? Though Windows Defender found no issue I'll give...

    SOLVED Mystery internet activity

Thanks for replying. I first had to look up the meaning of 'telemetry', :) having done so saw that as you say Microsoft uses it. This might be the explanation of what happened, I'll investigate.

    SOLVED Mystery internet activity

Thanks to all who replied. The laptop was switched off, and disconnected from the mains. I always do that when I've finished. The lights had gone off before I turned the laptop on. I couldn't find anything that had been downloaded and Windows Defender found no malware. It's odd, I've not yet...

    SOLVED Mystery internet activity

Recently I saw that my laptop, though switched off, had two of its front lights lit, orangey red. And the internet connection was active, something was being downloaded. Thinking it might be an update I left it, but could it be something undesirable? Computer has worked fine since this incident...

SOLVED Creating a sub folder in Windows 10 pictures

Thanks for your reply's Dave and Clint. I mentioned that I'd found a way to deal with the 'interrupted action' which is simply ignore it. The only reason I'd not flagged this problem as solved, which I'm about to, is because I wanted to know how it happened. Given that it can be just ignored...

SOLVED Creating a sub folder in Windows 10 pictures

Thanks for your responses. I ignored the warning that closing the 'interrupted action' window would cancel the file transfers, had too as I wanted to turn the computer off, and found today that the transferred files hadn't been deleted so now I know what to do. But I would like someone from...

SOLVED Creating a sub folder in Windows 10 pictures

My picture folder was over flowing so I made a sub-folder to move pics of a similar subject too. Selected pics, right clicked, selected 'copy', went to new sub-folder and pressed control V. The window I've attached appeared, and not knowing what to do I chose 'skip', which resulted in the...

    SOLVED Word option not working

Thanks to everyone who replied. The solution was, as Trouble advised, to double click. The magazine made a mistake, just saying click. Perhaps I should have had the initiative to try double clicking! But anyway problem solved.

    Sharing files on Onedrive

Hi everyone. I put a file on Onedrive and used the share option for anyone to view, then obtained a link. I checked the link and found I had to sign in to see the file. Does this mean that when Onedrive says 'anyone' it means anyone with a Microsoft account? Is there a way to make the file...

    SOLVED Word option not working

Hi all. Word's options, the 'advanced' section, then 'editing options' has a feature called 'enable click and type'. According to Computeractive magazine selecting this option means you can start typing anywhere in the document, with no need for returns, tabs or anything else. When I tried it...

Is this a problem with the hard disc?

Task Manager wasn't showing anything of heavy usage as far as I could tell. Memory usage was about 2.75 GB out of 4GB. There's a spinning disk (the fan wasn't making a lot of noise when the disk was at 100%) and out of 125 GB capacity about 50 GB is unused. The pc, brought second hand, is a few...

Is this a problem with the hard disc?

Thanks for your reply Trouble. I did run Check Disk which said everything was fine. I did wonder if the temporary maxing of the HD was caused by an update.

Is this a problem with the hard disc?

A strange event happened. I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows 10, and last Monday it was moving excruciatingly slow, a browser or app taking several minutes to load and frequently messages of 'not responding' occurred and whatever I had open froze for a minute or two. Video played, after VLC or...
