A couple days ago, I started getting a window when using email (with Internet Explorer) that asks if I want to leave the page. Is there some way to turn it off.

Hi waltl,

Welcome to the forum.

More than likely the website in question is making use of Active Scripting. It actually does make sense in your case as you mentioned you were using email. If you've typed a lot, but not sent or saved a draft and somehow accidentally close browser you would lose all that typing; but with that Active Script alert you get a chance to not close the page and thus not lose your efforts.

If you really want to disable it then do the following:
  • Close Internet Explorer browser
  • Right-click on Start
  • Left-click on Run
  • In the Run dialog type INETCPL.CPL then click OK
  • This will open your Internet Properties window. In this window left-click the Security tab
  • Next, Left-click on the Custom level button
  • This will open the Security Settings - Internet Zone window.

In this window scroll down towards bottom and locate Active scripting

    Check
the Disable as per sample image

    Sample Image

    as.png

    Click OK

You'll see the following pop up:

    as2.png

Click Yes, which will return you to the Internet Properties window. Here click OK

That ought to stop the alert you are seeing. Just note if the webpage uses JavaScript to load portions of the page you may have trouble loading the page. In that event you'll need to repeat above steps but check the enable instead.
