After getting 17063 to install by removing Avira, I tried Avast but found it way too much hard sell and very slow internet. Then I installed AVG and got along ok. Today I installed 17074 with no problems. Way to go Microsoft!

HI Ted,

you are aware that Avast and AVG are the same company?. ;) I tried Avast for a very short while and found it to have way too many pop-ups for my liking, I went back to Windows Defender!. :)

Yeah, the software itself is still very different. The virus definitions database has been merged though. BTW, I dislike both of them. I used AVG for over 10 years, but it uses way to much system resources. And Avast, as you said is a walking advertisement. But putting it in game mode quiets most of it.

I do not have third party antivirus software on my systems anymore. I had to get rid of avast recently as it blocked my system from updating (the update service was not running although it actually was). Now I am using Windows defender even on my Win7 systems...

Nevertheless the new version 17074 installed on my laptop without any problems....

Installed on both of my IP Desktops yesterday. But then they are older computers, Dell OptiPlex 755 and Dell Inspiron 531S, and are still quite usable.

From what I'm reading this updated build is the same as the previous build released last week, but....
Includes two new fixes for previously identified problems.
This build is the same as the version of Build 17074 released last week with 2 additional fixes. We have fixed the issue causing AMD PCs to become unbootable – which means we have removed the block for AMD PCs we put in place last week. And we also fixed the issue causing certain devices to hang on the boot screen after upgrading if virtualization is enabled in the BIOS.

Looks like no problems on both of my IP computers but they are older Intel CPUs, a Dell OptiPlex 755 and a Dell Inspiron 531S SFF. I have a couple of HP SFF computers with AMD CPUs I will do later.

At one time Avast was a great program, but it has turned into a Bloated POS

I had to go back to earlier builds as AVG would not update or work!
I have a paid sub of AVG going on to August 1920
It works on earlier editions
AVG said they are aware of the problem but do not support Windows Insider program problems.
Will this matter be put right in later insider versions (after 17074)?
I have temporarily paused updates of insider because of this!

I meant of course August 2020!

The issue for most software programmers is the Insider Preview Version 1709 Build 17074, now at Build 17083, is a Test or BETA version, there will be problems and folks writing the third-party software are reluctant to spend their resources until the final/released/RTM version is made available to the public.

My post was about Avast in The RTM or anywhere it is bloatware.

Based upon the statement from AVG I would uninstall it and activate/re-activate Windows Defender.
