Constant updates! Many fail!

I'm getting Windows 10 updates once or twice a week. Many times the updates crank on for hours and hours and then fail and I have to reboot several times and return to a previous version of Windows 10. Why is this happening and how can I stop it? These unwanted updates are driving me crazy. Why do they fail to work?
