when loading windows 10 it takes an age and i then get the screen

Start menu and cotana aren't working Well try to fix it the next time you sign in.

No ideas, except perhaps booting from the installation media and exploring some of the repair / troubleshooting options there.
The only other option I can reasonably thing of is, perhaps.....
Performing an inplace upgrade repair again using the installation media from within your loaded operating system and running setup.exe from it in hopes that Windows 10 will install over top of itself leaving your programs, data and drivers intact.
Now would be a good time to make sure that you've made every effort to keep safe your critical data by backing it up to an external resource (USB drive) and creating a system / disk image as well.

I presume that you would be logging in to your Microsoft account, so I would suggest that you simply log in locally and see how that goes.

Is it a fresh install? (Format the drive and install)
Or an upgrade?

How old is your hardware?
