I was surprised to learn that you can still have a desktop monitor slideshow.
First, click on Recycle Bin, and in the menu on the left, choose Pictures. You can use any folder in Pictures for your slideshow. You can drag any other pictures folder there, or create a new folder. Shrink the Pictures folder, but don't close it.
Next, right-click a blank spot on your desktop and select Personalize. In the menu on the left, select Background. On the page that appears, you can set-up your desktop monitor.
