When working with in file explorer and have a list of say 10 files in it and you open the third one down and work on that file and save it and close out of it, that file goes to the bottom of the list. This never use to happen, it has to be a windows 10 change. How do you change file explorer so that your list of files in a folder or any one you would open, will stay in it's order.

Thanks Jim

Hi Jim-ray,

Welcome to the Forum.

When in the folder you are experiencing this issue with, click in the top ribbon and select the View tab

Now
back in the top ribbon click Sort by and select the option you want.

My guess is at the moment the Sort by option is by Date modified and you have an descending order, meaning the most recent modified file is placed to bottom of list of files.

I do have sort on ascending. It is when you save a file, it goes to the bottom of the list.

How are you sorting the files though? By date modified, by file type, by name?

find a name, by type, it has not mattered. The file on working in right now is by name. Most of them are by type.
