I don't know what I'm doing wrong very new to computers, so it is all pretty complicated to me. each time I click on a page to open, whether it be browsing, reading e-mail anything I click on a get a message on the bottom of screen site not responding and seems to be loading pages slow. any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello and welcome to the forum.
You might want to try clean booting your system as described here

Easily done, easily undone.
Basically you're just disabling all the Startup Items and All non-Microsoft services.
Be sure to check the box to hide Microsoft Services, as you don't want to accidentally disable any of those.
See if that provides any relief.
Additionally you might want to perform a scan of the system for any malicious files
Malwarebytes from here http://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/confirm/
ADWcleaner from here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/dl/125/
JRT (Junkware Removal Tool) from here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/junkware-removal-tool/dl/131/
AND maybe follow that up with Ccleaner
Ccleaner from here http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard
AND then a manual defrag or two (assuming you have a spinner and not an SSD).
