Lenovo laptop the above fault any ideas?

Do you happen to have a USB wired keyboard laying around that you could plug in and test to see if it produces the same results.
IF it does then you might want to check
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Language and see what you have configured for a keyboard layout
