It won't let me type in the password

I'm on my laptop so I turn it on and once I click any button it is supposed to ask for my password to login but for some reason today all I see is the background of the computer and I can't login I've tried restarting the computer but that didn't work

It'd be nice if you would include some specifics as to the Manufacturer Name, Model Name and Model Number of your laptop, but....
Assuming a normal standard "laptop".....
Try a hard reset.
Unplug it from wall AC, remove the battery, flip it over and open it up and press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Close it up, flip it over, replace the battery, plug it back into wall AC, power it up.
