Hi,

Windows kept asking me for the password upon startup and would not recognize the password I input each time. So I would have to reset it. I went to the forum and read how to shut the password feature off by holding the windows key + r , typing the letters provided and unchecking the box. The system then asked me to restart. My laptop will not restart - blue/black screen appears and nothing else.

Help,

victoriar

Boot from the installation media and on the second page after the Choose a language and keyboard layout page, use the link that says Repair Your PC to avail yourself of some of the Advanced Troubleshooting options.
Personally I would try a restore point (system restore) prior to

The installation media can be obtain through either of these two resources.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/techbench
OR
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Once you have the ISO, you can use ImgBurn to burn it to a DVD or Rufus to burn it to a USB ThumbDrive, either of which you can use to boot your computer.

I must tell you that I'm really disappointed with all of this. I should have known a pop up offering a free upgrade was too good to be true. First the password issue. Everytime I logged in, it never accepted my password. Each time I had to go to my iPad and reset. I then go to a forum that tells me how to shut off the required password feature - with no warning it will crash my laptop. I then write to this forum and am told I should do an installation. An installation which requires me to use someone else's laptop or computer since I only have one laptop, buy a thumb drive and take up valuable time. The installation doesnt work, which requires me to call Toshiba. They charge me $40 and get my laptop functioning, however all of my information is completely gone. Photos, files, everything. The entire process took over 5 hours and cost $50 between thumb drive and Toshiba charge. I will never buy or recommend a Microsoft product again. Horrible experience.
