I didn’t shut down my new computer last night. When I got up today and moved the mouse, it resumed directly showing me the desktop, and not requiring me to login. I want this laptop to require a sign-in reliably 100% of the time it resumes from sleep.

My configuration:
  • Windows 10
  • In Power Settings, both battery and plugged in, turn screen off after 5 minutes, sleep after 10 minutes.
  • In Account Settings, Require Sign-In is set to When PC wakes from sleep. (there is only one user – me – and I am the Administrator)
What other settings should I be checking to make laptop require sign-in after sleep?

Hi sparkles,

Welcome to the Forum.

It appears you have covered all your bases per se.

The only other thing you can do is check Screensaver settings do not contradict your Sleep settings:
  • Right-click on Start then select Settings > Personalization
  • In left pane select Lock screen
  • Scroll down main window and click Screen saver settings
  • Check the box next to On resume, display logon screen

  • Click Apply then click OK
