I tried and when I attempted installation it said "this update is not compatible with your system!!!

How do I know which of the various files is the one I need?

HP latitude DV7 2017eg

Operating System
Windows 10 Home 64-bit (GERMAN LANGUAGE)

CPU
Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T6400 @ 2.00GHz
Penryn 45nm Technology

RAM
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 398MHz (6-6-6-18)

Motherboard
Hewlett-Packard 3624 (CPU)

You can do a manual download from the update catologue if you are having problems (choose the right package for your PC!):

https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4054517

Best thing to do is to keep checking for updates and it will bite eventually!. :)

Or use the update Troubleshooter:

Thanks - explains it

There are various minor versions at the link - i suppose I need the highest one right?

But I read about disastrous malfunction of many kinds and I have a laptop dated 2009 ... so I'll wait a month or so before trying to update... i have hidden the update for.now with a microsoft tool (wu..showhide...)
... And I do regret going from the robust Windows 7 to this touchy immature Win 10

the "German" versions Delta and Kumulativ updates for Windows10 X64 claim that they are for "Architektur: AMD64"
I have WIndows 64 bit:- version 1703 build 15063.850 on
Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T6400 @ 2.00GHz Penryn 45nm Technology

WindowsUpdate hangs at "updates werden heruntergeladen 2%"

I finally solved the download problem with this batch file:-

net stop bits
net stop wuauserv
net stop appidsvc
net stop cryptsvc
Del „%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat“
rmdir %windir%\softwaredistribution /s /q
net start bits
net start wuauserv
net start appidsvc
net start cryptsvc
bitsadmin.exe /reset /allusers
exit

  • reboot
  • search for updates
  • this takes ages to find out it is missing the Version 1709 fall creators update in German - a service pack or similar with added bloatware

  • after taking ages downloading the fall update, it asked for permission to install
  • after taking ages installing and after the umpteen reboots, it worked and
  • I do not seem to have any issues now

(NOTE THIS IS GERMAN WINDOWS 10 on an HP DV7 2017 "entertainment PC" laptop)

when you log in ,
  • you get silly banners saying there are some updates to install - for each user defined!!
    and again
  • you wait and wait for the system to update itself
then you see that your ever gracious µsoft has added contacts to the task bar and comes up with suggestions on what to buy next in the start menu -
I promptly disabled this bloatware
