Photo Gallery doesn't display images correctly

I prefer Windows photo gallery to the photo viewer, but in photo gallery pictures are displayed with terrible color banding.
I went to Properties - Compatibility - Settings and unchecked the Reduced Color Mode box, but that didn't make any difference. Can anyone help?
