Is there a way to get it to work just like Favorites did in Windows 7*? I've tried changing what's pinned, and whether or not frequently used and/or recently used files display, but I cannot get the search to find anything.

* Specifically, I often search Favorites for words that I know are in the filename or contents.

If you type indexing options in your search/Cortana field then press Enter you can modify what directories are able to be searched and include, or exclude areas.

Perhaps in your case the appdata directory is excluded and needs to be included to allow your word search to function as anticipated.

What does pinning to Quick Access have to do with getting the correct serach results?

The two are separate and independent functions?

I can't make any association between the two so could you link em' up for me?
