Have you tried Safe Mode? Press F8 just as you hear a beep or before the brand's logo fades. What is the ultimate desire for the computer?

Hi Sherry,

Welcome to the Forum.

As you boot your XP Tower you ought to be able to tap your F8 key to get to a screen where you can select boot options. When you get to this screen select Safe mode with command prompt.

Once it boots to the Command Prompt console simply type the following command to remove the password:

Code:
net user [username] ""

Press Enter key to execute

Note: So for example if the username is John which has the password you do not know then you'd type:

net user John "" and then press Enter key

Now just reboot computer and sign-in

Just use
Administrator
As a user name and nothing (blank) password.
Sometimes you may need to hit Ctrl + Alt + Del twice to get a username and password prompt.

XP didn't disable the local admin account and it never had a password, so....
Unless someone messed with it, that should work.
