i have a 2TB USB3 portable hard drive connected to a USB3 port for file history and backup. Recently i have been getting messages to "Reconnect your Drive". When I unplug and plug it back in it works again.
Any ideas?

Tickwood I'm not sure what you mean by unplug the HD.
Never just unplug a external USB devices especially USB HD/Thumb drives, you could corrupt the data if the device is still being written to. Click on the Sytem Tray icon that looks like (Safely remove Hardware and Devices) a thumb drive, select the device click on eject the device(s).

I've found it works to check the Power Options and adjust the USB options to never turn off the power to the USB ports. There's a number of power settings that can help or hinder use of the computer, for a couple I don't care for Sleep or Hibernate, tend to cause more issues than I need.
