I was wondering for I took the recovery drive made from a hp and used it to recovery a Toshiba would all my files be put into a windows.old file? don't know if the brand makes a difference just thought I'd be clear.

It would still install Windows, but it would attempt to install the HP drivers on a Toshiba system. Not a good idea. You would be better off downloading the Windows 10 install media and install it. Windows will eventually go get all the certified drivers for your Toshiba. But you can also visit the Toshiba support site and find the Windows 10 drivers for you system. Install those.

A Recovery Drive normally requires you to sign into the install. I would not think it would work on another computer.

Install media works on any installs.
