Download KB3099229 successfully but the installer hangs for ever on "Initializing Installation". Have ran several times with same result. See image uploaded.
The only way I can cancel this task is via "Task Manager", as Cancel button also hangs forever.

I suspect that installer may be corrupt but no idea how to prove or fix this problem.

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Not sure, but....
Some of those Standalone Installers can take quite a while to complete, so perhaps a little more patience might be required.
If you suspect a corrupt installer you can always download it again and save it to a new folder location on your desktop to see if it behaves any differently.

Be sure and get the correct bit version to match your system architecture and installed version of Windows.

Hi Trouble, Thanks for you reply, should qualified that "for ever" was over 12 hours before I ended the job. It did not seem to be using any CPU either.
Thanks for the link, this is for the update and not the installer ?
Have found downloads for the Windows Update Stand Alone Installer within Microsoft - but not sure if any of them are for Windows 10 - Any ideas Please

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/search/result.aspx?q=windows+update+standalone+installer&form=dlc

The documentation does not help me! Have also read that Microsoft is discontinuing the Stand alone installer forWindows 10 !! Even more confusing!

Thanks for any pointers

Maybe you or we are confused about the semantics of what you are looking for.
That was a stand alone installer for the KB article you referenced in your thread topic

Capture.JPG

Or maybe more accurately a feature pack for the "N" version of Windows 10 which I presume includes media player, so....
I think it is important to understand that a "Standalone Installer" is a means of installing certain Windows updates that are either not typically available through Windows Update or....
For some reason do not install properly through Windows Update.

The link you posted
References a brief period of time where Microsoft did remove the ISO for the November Update 1511 build 10586, but that has subsequently been returned to availibility
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/techbench
OR here
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

So I guess it comes down to what you actually need or want in the way of a "Standalone Installer"?

What are the K or KN versions of Windows 10? I assume they are for countries which do not normally contain the WMP?

Maybe Keith could just verify that is the case for him..

I suppose another consideration might be an anti-virus or firewall blocking the install.... Check the Event Viewer to see if any error or warning messages pop up concerning the attempted install.

Are you on a metered connection?
