I must have downloaded an app to customize the taskbar, now I just want a plain colour (without the stripes). Any suggestions please.

Hi Rhea,

open Settings > Personalisation > Colours > Show the accent colour on the following surfaces and select what you want from there!. :)

Many thanks for your quick reply Wolfie. I have changed the colour but it is those stripes that are annoying me. I am pretty sure I must have added an extension or add-on but cannot find it listed anywhere. I have attached an image.

After choosing the accent color did you tick the box that says "Show the accent color on the following surfaces -> Start, taskbar and action center?

Yes I did tick those boxes, but it didn't make any difference, I still have the stripes. I unticked the boxes and it still didn't get rid of the stripes.

That's certainly a possibility I guess. Did you download and install anything that mentioned adding "Aero" or "Aero Glass" to Windows 10

You might want to try clean booting your system as described here
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135

Easily done, easily undone.
Basically you're just disabling all the Startup Items and All non-Microsoft services.

Be sure to check the box to hide Microsoft Services, as you don't want to accidentally disable any of those.

Have looked at add-ons, extensions, programs etc., no Aero Glass. Do not want to reboot system as I would lose some of the additions I have downloaded.

Hi Rhea,

if you look at the themes; you will see a preview of the current theme being used (just below where it states "Apply a theme"), does it show stripes there?. ;)

Also, what graphics card do you have and have you installed any drivers for it or are you using the drivers provided by Windows?.

For Nvidia, go here and run the automatic tool from the drivers download section after selecting your country and language:

http://www.nvidia.com/content/global/global.php

or change the language here if you like (English US is the current selected language):

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

For AMD/ATI:

Unless Rhea has modified the update system in any way, it should, on installation, automatically collect the latest Nvidea/other drivers.

Maybe, Wolfie. But, I am assuming that it would download the applicable driver, according to the version. - maybe not so clever as that, though.
But, googling does not reveal anything that could relate to her problem. The original comment is the bother "I must have downloaded an app to customize the taskbar"
If, Rhea, If you open , in the settings "Apps ", then scroll down to "Programs and Features", can you identify any third party program you might have installed recently?

Have looked at the apps and checked them out, none that could account for this.

HI Rhea,

have you tried changing the theme at all?, it may be just a problem with the actual theme you are using?. :)

You are one cumulative update behind, but I don't think that is part of the problem.

Last resort (from me): Settings - Update and security - Troubleshoot.

Try "Hardware and devices" first, and then, if no better, "Program compatibility"

Did you try the clean boot procedure,,as mentioned by Trouble in post #6?
