Have thumbnails on all video and photos except vob files.
Always had thumbnails on vob files in windows 7?
Is this normal for windows 10?

Hi Slider,

That certainly is not the case. Windows 10 is capable of displaying a thumbnail icon for .vob files.

In my case it uses my Default Player (VLC) for the icon but you can make it whatever you want including custom ones.

You ,may need to check Folder Options and make sure one entry is not checked, and that another is checked.

See Sample Image Below to See What I Mean:

Another Possibility:

Check your Default File Types is set up to point to a player for .vob files.
  • Left-click on Start
  • Left-click on Settings cog icon
  • Left-click on System
  • In left pane click on Default apps
  • In the right pane scroll down and click on Choose default apps by file type
  • In the window that opens scroll down to .vob and set a default player of your choice.

Hi Slider,

That leaves a couple of other options then; at least a couple I can think are worth a shot anyway. Other's in the forum community may have some other ideas.

Option 1
  • Press Windows key and S key to give focus to Search box
  • In the Search box type Disk Cleanup then press Enter key
  • A small window will open - select the Drive windows is installed on
  • After a short while Windows will calculate what can be cleaned and size of space you could save

Then you will see the following window.

    Untitled3.png

  • Once you check the Thumbnails click OK
  • Then you will see a confirmation window - click Delete files
  • When done, shut down computer and restart.

Check now whether icons now show. If they do not show now, then go to option 2

Option 2
  • Download a third party tool that adds to the Windows Shell to provide more icon choices.
  • For example: Icaros which can be got here:

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/icaros.html

Simply, download, install and run program once. Note: Towards end of install there may be an option to activate program as well as run it. Check both the run and activate boxes if they appear. Don't bother with the third option - read me now.

Now go check whether icons show now.

Just had another thought on this.

Before downloading a third party tool check here too!
  • Open File Explorer
  • In left pane, right-click on This PC and select Properties
  • In the window that opens, in left pane click Advanced system settings
  • In the System Properties window that opens, in the top panel titled Performance click the Settings button
  • This will open the Performance Options window like so.

Make sure Show thumbnails instead of icons is checked.

If you have to check it, then after doing that click Apply, OK
