Time and date scroll up but pin input box doesn't show up or respond.

My roommate said that last night the log in screen would swipe up and grey out slightly like it was going to bring up the pin input dialog but it goes completely unresponsive. Typing the pin anyway doesn't work, the only thing I can do is wait for it to reappear as if I just turned it on but the same problem repeats. I was able to hold down the power button and restart twice before it let me log in. My check for updates says my system is up to date.
