When I installed Windows 10 everything was great except when I went to plug in my headphones (in Win 8.1 that automatically turned the speakers in my computer off) the speakers stay on. Anyone have any ideas? I tried quite a few things involving the sound in Control Panel etc.

Hi Charles,

That is odd as when you connect your headphones the speakers ought to disconnect / mute by default.

Have you tried running the Playing Audio troubleshooting app built in to Windows 10 to see if that fixes the issue?
  • Press Windows key and S key to give focus to your Search box
  • In the Search box type troubleshooting then press Enter key
  • In the window that opens, in the left pane click on View all
  • Now in main window (right side) click on Playing Audio and follow the prompts.

Regards,

Is it possible you are using the wrong headphone socket?

Depending on the make of computer, there can occasionally be one for HD and one for the older system . The HD would , possibly, produce what you are experiencing.
