Upgrade Windows 10 version

I bought a new PC around 18 months ago that came with Windows 7 that I updated to Windows 10 Home.

I have now found an old Windows 7 Pro CD I bought for the previous PC that hasn't been installed or used for a couple of years.

Can this Windows 7 Pro key be used to update Windows 10 Home to the Pro version? The key has been used before but not for at least 2 years.

If your current machine was updated to W10 via the free upgrade them MS knows that your machine was using W7 Home. It would be easier just to log on to MS and pay for the upgrade to Pro...if you think Pro is worth it. Disk encryption and being able to log on to a Domain seem the only useful parts now that W10 is pretty stable.
