usb to serial

i need to set up a usb to serial connection on my lap top,can i use any usb to serial adaptor or cable or does it have to be windows 10 compatible ?, i want to use a hand held gps unit

USB to serial adapters in my experience come with a driver or instructions for how to download one. Not impossible that W10 will have a basic driver built in.


I typed this into Google w10 usb to serial adapter drivers and got a page or two of info. Seems that some brands are more picky that others. Worth a look. This one claims it is w10 compatible http://www.usconverters.com/usb-serial-adapter-xs880

I have a scanner which uses USB to serial and all I need to use is a USB cable. No special converter seems to be involved.

You will have to set it up as far as the rates in the Settings-Devices.
