o/k the title is a bit confusing but here goes
One of my PCs got a bad problem ie wouldn't start then a message said trying to do a recovery.
That was not going to work as it then went into a loop and just kept trying but failing on the recovery.
What i did was reinstalled W7 then did the upgrade to W10 and all is well again

This got me thinking if a similar problem happens after the free W10 in July would you be able to perform the same action as above. ;)

I assume that when the "Anniversary Update" is made available publicly it will be done in a similar fashion as in that past.
That is to say, that the installation media will be available in an ISO format and you will be able to construct the installer from that, and......
The concern will be, since that date will be close to the same date that a "free" upgrade will no longer be an option, then repeating the exact steps you performed above might not succeed.
What I don't understand, is why you are reinstalling Windows 7 and then upgrading that, instead of just reinstalling Windows 10?
I would assume that if the computer had, had the "Anniversary Update" already installed, then a reinstall from that installation media would still be an option.

This is the strange thing i did try but it just said no OS found so i guess during its attempt to do a recovery it wiped my OS out as don't have a W10 disk but do have a W 7 disk i was left with little option. :(

as don't have a W10 disk
At some point you should probably download the ISO for your installation
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/techbench
That will provide an ISO that will upgrade (or clean install) either or both Windows 10 Pro and Home.
Once you have downloaded the ISO you can use ImgBurn to burn it to a DVD http://imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
OR
Rufus to burn it to a USB ThumbDrive http://rufus.akeo.ie/
Handy to have around. As you can use it as rescue media to access some of the advanced troubleshooting options on an unbootable PC or perform an in-place upgrade repair in the case of a computer that boots but seems to have some OS problems.
There is a pretty good article here https://neosmart.net/wiki/windows-10-repair-installation/ just ignore the first couple paragraphs where they are promoting their repair products and scroll down to the meat of the article.
OR, as in your case, perform a clean install by booting from the installation media.
