Weird artifacts on screen after handling my GPU what went wrong?

I recently opened up my PC to clean some dust and re-seat my GPU. After putting everything back together, I’m noticing weird artifacts on the screen—like flickering, random lines, and sometimes the display cutting out. I’ve tried re-seating the card and checking the power connections, but the issue persists.

Could this be a driver issue, or did I accidentally mess up the GPU while handling it? I didn’t use much force, just unplugged and plugged it back in. Any ideas on what could have gone wrong?

Yeah! There could be a couple of ways it could've happened. Anyhow, it is frustrating at all! What could've happened:
  1. Made loose connection - Recheck your connections and make sure all connections are tight and GPU is fully seated in the PCIe slot.
  2. Driver or Software issues - Try reinstalling the GPU drivers or rolling back to a previous version.
  3. Maybe OVERHEATING - Check if the fans are spinning properly. Use MSI afterburner to manage fan speed for cooling down the PC.
One more thing - there may be some unseen issues that can arise while handling sensitive components like GPU and other electronic stuffs. Our body carries some static charges that somehow are responsible for unexpected crash. Did you bare-handedly touch these components? This can suddenly discharge your body charges into the components and can harm these. Something to be considered!

Well, I think that Static Damage can be one of the serious damage for the hardware. While the other damages can be seen like the physical damage, static damage can not be detected instantly.

Use anti-static items like wrist straps which connects you to grounding station or wearing anti static gloves can prevent static charges entering and damaging the delicate electronic elements.

Warning: Never go fixing the electronics using bare hands.
