I'll keep it as brief as possible, after the spring update my RealTek HD internal mic and even an external mic when plugged in fails work.. I can't even "configure" the mic settings as a pop-up states "Unable to start wizard".
Now to clarify, the sound card and driver's install fine and there's no yellow indication in Device Manager..and ALL the sound works as it should without issue. I have trouble shot the problem and it comes back with no issues found...I have also installed the old HP driver which I keep on a usb drive and still no go.
I have also uninstalled the driver from within Device Manager and rebooted to no avail, ran updates to see if there was an update and nope..
The strangest part is that the sound card is working perfectly, it's just the mic that ain't... if I had hair I'd be pulling it out.
Do I surrender to the MS god's?... have I exhausted all of my options?
Will Roger return early from his ski trip to Vail only to find Jessica in bed with the pool cleaner?...
But I digress..
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

Press the Windows and "i" keys simultaneously, click "Privacy", then "Microphone" and make sure that "Allow apps to access your microphone" is on. Also, scroll down to the application you are using and make sure it is set to "On".

Hmmm... Will give that a try, I'm wondering if the programs in question that previously had access to the mic had something change or revert with the Spring update.
Cheers for the suggestion..never even thought of this.

Well...
Turned out that the mic/apps setting was turned off despite the fact that it was turned on by myself prior to the Spring thingy.
Now Im going to dive in a little deeper and see what else may have been altered.
@Trouble..yes I tried that driver as that's actually my default laptop driver.
