Lost Bookmarks

I use Firefox and BT Mail. All my bookmarks have disappeared , no history, no trace.I do not know if was caused by a Windows update but I can not find them anywhere

by default your bookmarks are here:
C:\Users\{your name}\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\{any number of characters}.default\bookmarkbackups

at least that is where they are on my PC
