my original problem started with the blue screen with the message "unexpected_kernel_mode_trap" i then proceeded to use all options to fix try to fix the problem as the system could not fix the issue.

having decided to reset computer with KeepFiles option the following error message now appears on boot up:
"the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unspecified error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows click OK to restart the computer, and then restart the installation"

I cannot get passed this last step.

I guess I need to use F2 or F12 but that is where my knowledge stops.
Advice more than welcome

Hello and welcome to the forum.
Sounds like a kernel mode driver issue.
I would think that possibly, your only option at this point might be to boot from the installation media and use the Repair your PC link on the second page (just after the language / keyboard page) and then avail yourself of the advanced troubleshooting options to see if anything there might help.
Maybe the Go Back To button might be the best option to rollback to your previous version of Windows and regroup.

The installation media can be obtain through either of these two resources.

Once you have the ISO, you can use ImgBurn to burn it to a DVD or Rufus to burn it to a USB ThumbDrive, either of which you can use to boot your computer.
