Windows 10 apps failing to launch?

Simple apps like the calculator, calendar,photo app etc. are failing to launch. Initially I was getting an error that said to check information in the app store... Annoyed and my wife not having this problem I decided to see if there were any Win updates available thinking this might be the root of the problem as I tend to not update often. There were indeed several updates. I hoped this solved the problem but only seems to have made it worse, as before the program launched but I got the error message and it immediately closed. Now when I try to launch the applications, I get no response, zip, zerp, nota, nothing.

I have already tried a few "Fix's" in some youtube video's that have failed to do anything. Can anyone offer me any advice on how to solve this problem?

Yes I have, it reported only a UAC issue, which I reluctantly let it turn back on. And still, no change.

I've had problems with a couple of those Universal apps. They aren't reliable. So, I switched to alternatives - Weather Channel app instead of the Weather app, Google apps for calendar and several others. Don't like the mail app anyway so using my MS Office Outlook.
