To split a large Outlook PST file into multiple PST files, you can follow these steps:

1. Open Microsoft Outlook and create new PST files:

  • Go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings.
  • Under the “Data Files” tab, click “Add” to create one or more new PST files where you'll move the data.
2. Manually move emails or folders:

  • In your large PST file, select emails or entire folders.
  • Right-click and choose “Move Folder” or “Move Items.”
  • Select the new PST file as the destination.
3. Repeat the process:

  • Continue moving data in chunks (e.g., by date or folder) until you’ve organized your content across multiple PST files.
4. Optional – Use archive feature:

  • Go to File > Tools > Clean Up Old Items.
  • Use AutoArchive to move older emails into a separate PST based on date.
5. For automated splitting:

  • If you want to split a large Outlook PST file quickly or without manual effort, consider using third-party PST splitter tools. These allow for automated division by size, date, folder, or sender.
This approach helps manage Outlook performance and avoids data corruption issues due to oversized PST files.

Outlook doesn’t have a built-in option to split PST files, but you can do it in a few ways:

Manual method:
Create new PST files in Outlook (File > Account Settings > Data Files > Add), then drag and drop emails or folders from the big PST into these new files. This works but can be tedious for large files.

Archive feature:
Use Outlook’s Archive to move older emails into separate PST files, effectively splitting by date.

Use a dedicated tool like Stellar Splitter for Outlook
This is my preferred method because it’s fast and reliable. You just load your PST into Stellar Splitter for Outlook, choose how you want to split it (by size, date, folder, or email), and let it create smaller PST files automatically. It saves a lot of manual work and reduces risk of corruption

The easiest way to split a large Outlook PST file into multiple smaller PST files is to use a dedicated tool like Shoviv PST Splitter. Outlook doesn’t provide a built-in option for splitting PST files, especially by size, date, or folder. This tool lets you divide your PST based on criteria like size (e.g., 1GB, 2GB), year, or even specific folders, making it much easier to manage large mailboxes. I’ve used it to break down a 20GB PST, and it kept all my data and folder structure intact. Simple and efficient.
