Excel sheets are used by a lot of people to keep track of their names, phone numbers, emails, and addresses. It makes it easy to keep track of a lot of contacts. But when you try to move these contacts to your iPhone, you will face a problem- iPhones do not accept Excel files for importing contacts. iPhones use a format called vCard (.vcf) to store contact information.

So, before you can add your Excel contacts to your iPhone, you need to change your Excel file (.xls or.xlsx) into a vCard (.vcf) file.

Manual Method (Free Option)-

  • To save the Excel file as a CSV file, open it and select Save.
  • Now, go to your Windows PC and Open the folder called Contacts. Click Import → Pick CSV → Upload your file and map the contact fields.
  • Select Export when you're done importing. Pick the vCard file and then save it.
  • Now you can either use iTunes to move the vCard file or upload it to iCloud.
Note: It is possible for this method to be slow and hard to understand if you have a lot of contacts or aren't familiar with the steps.

Easier Option – Use a Professional Tool

For a faster and simpler way, I recommend you can consider using the WholeClear Excel to vCard Converter. With only a few clicks, this application lets you easily convert Excel files into vCard format. It works with.xls and.xlsx files, lets you map fields (like name, phone number, etc.), and makes vCards that iPhones can read properly. With its graphical user interface, it's easy to use even if you don't know much about technology. There is also a free demo of this software available which you can download to examine its functionalities for free.

iPhones do not directly support Excel for contacts, hence if you have a list of contacts stored in an Excel file and need to migrate them to your iPhone, you have to convert that Excel file into a vCard (.vcf) format. Standard for importing contacts into Apple devices is the vCard structure. In my opinion you can use the Softaken Excel to vCard Converter. I tested it myself and found it very simple. I would so highly advise using this tool if you want a hassle-free approach and are not too technical. This tool supports all Windows versions. You can view and test the conversion process with this application by using its free sample version.
