Need MP4 player

Friends often send me emails with all kinds of stuff that is in MP4 format that I cannot open. I have Windows media player and VLC installed. Shouldn't I be able to open these files automatically while still in my Google email?

Windows Media Player does not support mp4 format by default. You need to install an additional DirectShow-compatible MPEG-4 decoder pack to be able to play mp4 in Windows Media Player.
