Just curious, we still get monthly updates for (SRT) MS Malicious Software Removal Tool. Does anyone use this program?
I used it once way back with Win 7 Pro.

AFAIK it's built into windows 10 and windows updates it a lot.

I thought Windows scheduled it to run every so often, perhaps after Defender finds something...dunno.

The MSRT updates definitions within MS, and fresh copies are downloaded to the computers. It normally comes on the infamous "Patch Tuesday" After downlaod, when the computer is not in use, it does a more thorough scan that Defender fpr deeper instances of Virus..
If it finds a serious (malicious) infection it will inform you.
It isn't unique to Windows 10, but was first shown in Windows XP

Do any of you use MRT on a regular schedule?
I used it last week, quick and thorough scans just because I was curious if it would find anything. Clean bill of health.

I use the MSRT and Defender on all my Windows 10 machines as well as Windows 8 machines...

It does see this page for requirements. Open the "Details" it's all there

davehc Thanks for the info. I didn't know that it was scheduled to run in the background. It may explain some of the posts that we frequently see here on the forum "What background process is using my disk ?
