Hello,

I have a Dell Windows 10 laptop. I just used Ookla Speedtest to check my internet connection speed. It showed Ping - 85. I do not know what that means. Can someone explain what that means to me?

Thank you.

It is basically saying hi to a specific server and getting a response back. It is the amount of time taken to get the response. While it is not the best. It is far from bad.

My question would be why your download is less than half your upload rate. That usually means you are not getting the rated download you are meant to. Until we finally got fiber. Our download rate was always about ten times higher than the upload. Now that we are on fiber our download and upload rates are equal.

Ping measures how long it takes for data to travel from your laptop to a server and back, and it’s measured in milliseconds (ms). A ping of 85 ms means there’s a slight delay, but it’s generally fine for most activities like browsing or streaming. Lower ping (e.g., under 30 ms) is better for real-time tasks like gaming or video calls, where a faster response is needed. So, 85 ms is decent but not as fast as lower values.

Mine is not as fast as Clifford_cooley but it is satisfactory. The issue with the ping is that the farther away the contacted server is, the worse it gets. You might want to change it to a server closer to you. Your speeds show not the best Internet provider.
