Every month like clockwork, I turn on my computer, click on my browser, and it's gummed up. When this happens to my normally efficient computer, I just know that updates are being Installed. This happens without my knowledge or consent. I have missed crucial deadlines on my website because of updates. Why can't you notify me so I can choose specifically the date and hours for updating. Does Windows even care?

Here’s one. Windows updates come on the 2nd Tuesday of every month. You can pause them for up to 7 days if you need to, so you can choose a more convenient time. You should know this, because it‘s been this way for years. There’s your notification.
