I have received recently windows update errors. I have contacted both Windows help and support and Dell support both took control of my computer and tried to fix the issue. I read that bits in services is supposed to be running and automatic it does for a while then goes back to stopped and manual. when i run the windows update trouble shooter it will run and say fixed . but then i go back to servoces and again it is stopped and on manual. Id like to fix it but not have to reinstall the operating system als do not want windows 11 at this time. is there a fix to keep this running that is not to complicated for me a novice on computers

Have you tried resetting the update components?
Open cmd prompt/powershell with admin & enter:
Net Stop bits
Net Stop wuauserv
Net Stop appidsvc
Net Stop cryptsvc
Ren %Systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore DataStore.bak
Ren %Systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\Download Download.bak
Ren %Systemroot%\System32\catroot2 catroot2.bak
Del "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat"
Net Start bits
Net Start wuauserv
Net Start appidsvc
Net Start cryptsvc
Restart the PC & try updating again.

And/or:
Search for services.msc & find Windows Update & ensure it is set to Automatic.
