Hi all, a simple question - is there anyone who has upgraded from Windows 7 that wishes they hadn't, and why?
I haven't so far because I don't like some of the reports and comments I've read and as we have a year to upgrade free I was thinking I would hold off and wait for initial bugs and problems to be sorted out.

Here's a comment for what it's worth: I had a laptop with 7 on it and was well satisfied. Then had a problem I couldn't fix so I purchased another with 8.1 on it. From what little I saw or heard about basic 8 it was awful. 8.1 was tolerable and meanwhile the one with 7 got fixed. So I updated 8.1 to 10 and left 7 untouched. That's my personal preference and what i'm going to stick with.

Hi Warcraft Nut, I had win 7 on two laptops and upgraded both to Win 10. One was an older model Asus core 15, gave me a lot of trouble upgrading. Had problems for three weeks until tonight when I "reset" via win10. Going like a new one now.
The other was a Gaming PC, plenty of grunt and Ram etc. Upgrade went smooth, no worries! I would recommend
anyone who has problems with a similar upgrade to reset straight away if you're prepared to reinstall a few programs
you might have lost in the "Reset"

Speaking of reset there's a thread on page 2 of General Discussions by me about what happens after reset. What is retained and what is lost. It's worth taking a look at.

hey all,

well windows 10 upgrade is over one month old and appears to be liked by some and hated by others.
yes i have had some issues with updates however i have decided to wait a little while until some of the bugs are worked out of the updates that are causing some problems here and there.
i installed windows 10 on a desktop that was just sitting around so no loss on my end if it doesn't work and i have to wait it out for awhile.
i don't think that microsoft is pushing it any more than when window 7 or windows 8 was released. in my opinion it is ones personal choice to accept and install. if you don't want it than Remove and Hide the (KB3035583) update.
if a person feels no gain then keep your current perfectly working OS because that is what i would choose.
for me windows 10 offers no advantage to what i am able to do with linux / windows 7 / windows 8.
there seems to be current software that doesn't run with widows 10 and also some hardware which isn't supported but the lack of driver support for hardware isn't microsofts job to support.
i will choose to receive the offer to install windows 10 OS just because it is given to me if i choose to take it and that is something that doesn't happen from microsoft and may not ever happen again.
so windows 10 has issues, all OS have had problems and issues from the first release and they are always patched and fixed for the most part and wind up working fine.
so enjoy what OS you have.

life is good.

I upgraded to W10 the day of release on one PC i liked it and it was a lot faster than W7.
Now i have three PCs on W10
Like most things there are always going to be parts you dont like mine is the very slow install of updates. :(
Personally i wouldn't want to go back to W7 :)

like anything new there are always some dislikes and bugs and must be worked out and don't always go right at first time around but do get fixed. slow updates aren't always a bad thing as long as they install. could be due to the jambed up loaded down microsoft servers.

I upgraded my PC from 7-8-8.1-and now 10. Upgraded my Laptop from 7 to 10. No regrets on any of them. I have older software that works on 10. Of course no support on any of my components since they are older. I installed printer as well as older software from disc. Went to parents house to do some work on her PC which is 7 and it felt outdated. I will not update hers to 10 anyhow the same PC as mine just cause she is set on ways to do things. Can't have any problems over there since I will be driving to fix things that may not work right. Problems I had were fixed with a clean install.

well I tried windows 10 again and install went well and updates have installed and no problems yet. seems some of the previous bugs have been fixed but we will see what happens as new updates come in and install. I like it so far as it seems I can navigate through it very easily. I installed windows 10 pro 32bit on a dell inspiron 531s amd Athlon 64x2 4000+ (2.1 ghz) dual core 4.0gb ram 250 gb hard drive and NVidia 6150 integrated graphics and hot a hitch so far. old desktop box from 2008. I like it.

well another install of windows 10 and all went well.
this time on a 2005 dell desktop pulled from a neighbors trash.
the fan in the power supply was locked up and so I replaced it.

windows 10 is turning out to be a lot better then I first thought it would be and I have no regrets about the upgrade from windows 7.
seems my only issues with it is lack of ati graphics card drivers.
I wonder if flight simulator x will install and run ok will have to try and see.

not disappointed at all.

Warcraft Nut, you are a very wise man. I wish I had waited to upgrade to windows 10. I have had nothing but one problem after another. I cannot oped the start menu. Cortana isn't speaking to me, nor does 'she' want to be visible. I am unable to log on to windows because my 'correct' password is not recognized. I have learned to log on, then off and on again. Then my password is recognized. So darn time consuming just to get logged on. I am so frustrated, mostly at myself for not waiting until all the bugs were ironed out. Bottom line, I do not like Windows 10. Who, at Microsoft, stated that Windows 10 was the best yet? Good luck Microsoft, trying to get us to believe it.

I am in same boat. No problems. One Laptop HP and PC Dell. Both are about 5 years old and started out as Windows 7. I did do a clean install which eliminates problems from upgrading over older operating systems.

nope I did have some problems with the upgrade the first time I tried to install it so I waited for one month and reinstalled it and here I am three old dell desktops and no problems. the oldest one is from 2005.
how can I be disappointed it is free and if I don't like it I just roll it back to windows 7.
yeah I wished I worked for Microsoft.

Roddie, if I do a clean re-install, won't I loose my programs and files? I did a re-install in hopes the problem issues I was having would be repaired. After 5 hours of the re-install, all problem issues were still there.

hey zoom05,

roll your windows 10 back to the previous OS you were running before the upgrade that you installed and you should be ok.

as Roddie said a clean install and no problems upgrades have been known to cause problems.

I am just a little bit but its alright. I cannot get my laptop to upgrade. Just a casual upgrade. I have windows 10 already but some of the functionaliies are just different. Wish I can go back to windows 8.1 and start the process all over again. But its all good.

Well, my win10 looks and feels like my win7, just a little snappier on my amd fx-8350, all except for the task bar thing at the bottom, which still looks and functions like winXP.

But what pain to defeat all the spy crap...

All my PCs were at Windows 7 Ultimate back in the days.
On day 1 of release of Windows 8 Pro, I've tested it on my laptop, which worked well, but had some issues to iron out.
Later, when Windows 8.1 was out, I tried, and seeing how much improved over vanilla 8, I decided to migrate all my machines at home to it (8.1 Pro) since it not only brought far better performance, but also stability over Windows 7.

Now, on Windows 10, I decided to migrate 1 machine for tests, and soon after a week, I migrated all my machines to 10 Pro. In total, 2 desktops, 2 HTPCs, 4 laptops were migrated from my personal machines, and clients on which I've worked on their machines were also upgraded, all with positive comments also as they all went from Windows 7 to 10 and saw the performance increase. Users of Windows 8 / 8.1 won't see much performance improvement, but for IT specialists, you will have more tools in at your hands to create things without third part software.
