30 years ago today.
On November 20, 1985, two years after the initial announcement, Microsoft ships Windows 1.0. Now, rather than typing MS‑DOS commands, you just move a mouse to point and click your way through screens, or “windows.” Bill Gates says, “It is unique software designed for the serious PC user.”

It worked then.
Wonder why they can't seem to get it to work now.

I don't put the entire blame in the direction of MS.
It seems to be what is cynically called "Progress""
I don't know how things are over your side of the pond, but, generally here, whatever you have done by an "Expert", it seems that a close eye has to be kept on the ongoing repairs and a bold front when you notice something which doesn't seem right. Works for me!

I am so glad that I am at the far end of the "aging" chain lol.

All jesting aside and I'm sure I managed to offend at least a few MS purists with the photo,as nothing in this world is perfect it still stands as the OS that I was introduced to the wonderful world of PC's and continue to learn on..if it was without fault we wouldn't have a forum.
Just another link in the aging chain..

I think it pretty much all boils down to......
Mobile First, Cloud First, Windows as a Service, which loosely translated means.... everyone all up in your business all the time. Satya Nadella's world which actually started with Balmer, but they've subsequently doubled down and there's no end in sight.

At 66 I'm definitely closer to the end than to the beginning, but hell.... I'd take another 66 if I could get it, just to watch, what pops out of this Clown Car of a World we live in next.

Trouble, 66 is the new 45!..mid life crisis is in the wings..I say buy a Lamborghini in yellow!...
There isn't a day I wake up and switch this box on that I'm not utterly amazed at the tech behind it all, even when things go south as they so often do..I'm still in awe at what's possible with computers these day..and I never take that for granted.
Can't wait to see what the clown car offers in the years to come!
