Unable to reset PIN after recent security email change

Hello,

I've forgotten my laptop PIN and am redirected to sign in to my Microsoft account to reset it. Although my password is correct, I can’t proceed because I recently requested a change to my security details (backup email), which is no longer active. I'm stuck on a screen telling me to cancel that change request.

I've also entered the wrong PIN too many times, so I can’t even sign in to my Microsoft account now. This is very frustrating as I need access to my laptop for university, work, and personal use.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi! Microsoft usually has a 30-day period for security changes, which restricts account modifications like resetting your PIN. Try signing in with your password instead by selecting "Sign-in options" on the login screen. You can also visit the Microsoft account recovery page and fill out the form, providing as much info as possible. Contacting Microsoft Support directly might expedite the process. Keep us posted!

Try using any additional security contacts you've set up, like a phone number or alternate email. If you had a local account on your laptop, try logging in with that to sort out your Microsoft account issues separately. You can also boot your laptop in Safe Mode and try accessing the built-in administrator account to reset your settings.

I’ve had a similar issue. If you have a password reset disk or USB, use it to reset your password offline. You can also boot from a Windows recovery drive if you have one and access system restore options. Since you need the laptop for university, check if your university’s IT support can help. They might have tools for this.
