The auto-install for Windows 10 update KB5041580 hung on "preparing to configure Windows" with no progress percentage for 12 hours. I powered down the laptop despite the warning, and upon restarting, it briefly returned to the same screen before slowly progressing through the update.
The update now shows as 'successful,' but why did it hang? Is there a better recovery method than powering off? How should I handle this if it happens again?
I’ve noticed numerous reports of issues with this release - could there be a problem with it?
