I know this problem is not new and there are a lot of threads out there which already answered this question, but I'm really helpless at the moment. I installed an update of a software and it required me to restart for the update to take effect. However when I restarted the computer the password box and my username refused to show up. I tried troubleshooting but I couldn't even boot into safe mode (the startup settings box isn't there either). The recommended shift + restart doesn't work on my computer, the command prompts do not recognize anything suggested in other threads. I've tried again more than 50 times and it solved absolutely nothing. The only thing I haven't tried yet is to use a second computer, which I don't have at the moment.
