What can i do beside run sfc/scannow to prevent my old dell desktop from freezing?

When does it freeze? When you use specific apps? When you have a specific mix of apps open? When you do specific tasks? We really need much more detail on what you're doing and how it freezes to help you.

Do it actually freeze permanently or just become very sluggish? Does it recover from the freeze eventually?

Is your system drive an SSD or an HDD? How full is it?
