Video download problem

When trying to download video from internet get "This type of video file not supported." Tried to fix with "Reimage repair." Downloaded but would not open>

Knowing the exact extension/format of the file would be most helpful, there's several such as .mp3, .m4a, .flv, .mkv, etc. I use VLC for opening most media formats. www.videolan.org
