I have Real-time protection on which is the default setting anyway.
I thought WD will do its thing without my input.
Isn't Real-time Protection supposed to do that ?
Why do I have to run scan manually ?
This happened once awhile and I dutifully ran the scan, but I wonder why.

Ghosts in the machine. We have all been experiencing mysterious changes in our systems. I just had my taskbar lock and I know that it was not my input. When it did that, I could not see the task bar and it would not pop up when I hovered there with my cursor, I unchecked it and now it unhides as usual.
I just checked the lock taskbar box to see if it would fail to appear but it pops up as it should.

Real time detection isn't a scan. It scans incoming files. It's not a replacement for an occasional full scan. Defender is about the worst at detecting virus', btw. Non of the experts advise using it.
