Windows defender, seriously??

Now it sees RUFUS as a virus after today's Update (6-3-2018)??

Got to be kiddin' .....

[edit]

Just saw this on the website for Rufus:

IMPORTANT (2018.06.03): Windows Defender may be reporting that rufus-3.0.exe contains Trojan:Win32/Plutruption!ARXep.
We have submitted this issue to Microsoft who have CONFIRMED that it was a false positive on their side (submission id e475c9e2-10e5-4d7d-8b0c-8f368c71ae72) and that they will update their antivirus definitions to remove it.
In the meantime, we have also uploaded a new executable, to avoid this inconvenience.

Good to know it's a false positive - I bet that gave a few people a fright!

Thanks for the heads up :).

I've never had a false positive with Avast or Bitdefender. I did have several years ago with AVG though. If you research WD, it is famous for false positives. I never had one on the one PC I used it. I still don't trust my main PC to it.

Windows Defender is at it again. The latest definitions (1.269.1834.0) see Rufus 3.1 as the same virus as above, the prior definitions 1.269.1797.0 did not.

Nothing on the Rufus Website yet, I have notified the developer already

[edit]

Rufus has responded and shows a warning on their Website: https://rufus.akeo.ie/

IMPORTANT: Once again, as was the case with the 3.0 release, Windows Defender (with definition update 1.269.1834.0) is erroneously reporting that Rufus 3.1 may contain Trojan:Win32/Plutruption!ARXep. We have reported this to Microsoft yet again and, as was the case with Rufus 3.0, we expect them to clear this false positive very soon. In the meantime, you are invited to re-download Rufus 3.1, as we have put a temporary new version online that shouldn't trigger the antivirus.

They are at it again. Just got it from the newest version of Rufus!
