Boinc Software auto-installed and Can't Uninstall

I've discovered that a program called Boinc has somehow been installed on my computer without my consent. It's constantly running in the background and triggering frequent pop-ups. Despite my efforts to uninstall it, Boinc isn't listed among my installed programs, and any files I delete reappear shortly after. I read on a Boinc message board that this could be a malware issue affecting only Windows users, but no solutions were provided. I've run various security and virus scans, but nothing has been detected. Can anyone offer any assistance?

A Search of the Internet finds pages about the program and seems to be legitimate and does run in the background.
