Change hardware, make activation void with win8.1

Is there an identical situation when hardware is changed (motherboard, CPU) with win 10 where the activation is void if the install was done with a DVD win 8.1 pro. Most people upgrade their hardware but don't change their hard drive with all their data and applications. Has anyone attempted this upgrade with win 8.1. What will MS do next?
